Shield Teens

Introduction:


The project Shield Teens intends to work with the girls and women of the urban slum of East district of Delhi who are vulnerable to the forced prostitution and the being lured on the pretext of friendship, marriage and other lucrative promise by the predators. The project will create a stakeholders network by sensitizing them on this burning issue and ask their intervention in saving the girls and young women of the community. The organization has already identified 100 vulnerable girls and young women who are either drop out or non-school going or irregular in the schools. The project forms girls’ groups and sensitize them about various issues linked to them. Hence, they will be empowered about their rights and will also be engaged in various skill training programmes. The project works with the stakeholders like Education Department, Women and Child Welfare Department, Delhi Commission for Women, National Commission for Women, National Commission for protection of Child Rights, Police and Community leaders etc.

Another important aspect of the project is to develop the adolescent girls and women as skilled person by providing various vocational training like beautician course, English speaking and leadership course, Computer, Accounting and Tailoring and Stitching.

The organization has been working in the Dallupura, Khichripur and Kalyanpuri area of East Delhi for five years. As a part of its work in these areas the organization has reached out to the students of the local school with the purpose of sensitizing them on child rights issues. Adolescent girls of these communities have also been reached out with the issue of life skills, hygiene, education and health issues. The people in these areas are migrated from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The men are working as daily wage earner while the women are working as domestic maid, in factories or are house wives.
